The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company Uses WildPackets’ Omni³

For the world’s largest tire company, staying number one means continually creating the best tires for a wide variety of applications, from passenger and racing cars to construction machinery and jet aircraft. Like any industry leader, Goodyear has increasingly relied on its computer network and data center infrastructure to streamline research, development, and production.

In the spring of 2004, Goodyear’s IT management launched an effort to consolidate the number of products it used, and network analysis products were part of that effort. WildPackets was on a short list of products evaluated as a way to consolidate multiple analyses, monitoring, and troubleshooting functions under one platform.

After testing over the summer, the RD&E team deployed WildPackets’ OmniPeek console and Peek DNX distributed analysis engines for Ethernet and wireless networks, and RMONGrabber to relay RMON information to the OmniPeek console. The remote engines perform analysis locally while forwarding information on demand from the OmniPeek console, which is where the user evaluates analytical results during troubleshooting.

Baxter Regional Medical Center

Baxter Regional delivers healthcare services to residents in the Twin Lakes region of Arkansas.

As a not-for-profit corporation, Baxter Regional’s strategy relies on improving process efficiencies with more automation and with optimal network infrastructure. Maintaining optimal performance on the network to meet varying service level demands, and migrating new applications and upgrading existing ones, impose complexity.

Baxter Regional Medical Center’s network encompasses 750+ nodes spanning multiple buildings with switched 10/100 segments joined to an operations center via fiber-based Gigabit Ethernet lines.

Baxter Regional selected WildPackets’ Omni3 distributed solution to maintain network Performance and deliver services efficiently.

Real-time visibility to remote segments provides faster problem identification and resolution. The immediate benefit is increased network uptime, which allows Baxter Regional to provide more services to its customers - reliably and efficiently.

Davita

DaVita is a healthcare services organization that provides kidney dialysis services to nearly 47,000 patients in 33 states. Using a mix of Frame Relay, ISDN, and DSL-based VPN connections, DaVita’s network links an application hosting center in Washington and a network management center in California with some 5,000 PC users at 542 sites across the United States.

In the past, DaVita’s IT team used Sniffer™ DSS to troubleshoot WAN traffic problems, and it used WildPackets’ EtherPeek NX - driven remotely with Microsoft NetMeeting or PC Anywhere - to view problems with application performance, printing, or server time-outs on individual LANs. But the process was far from seamless.

Omni³'s ability to support multiple captures and multiple simultaneous users eliminated the problem. In addition, the team can now use OmniPeek and Peek DNX to begin remote captures without having to set up a NetMeeting or PC Anywhere session. Another benefit of the OmniPeek console is that it can be used to analyze local as well as remote segments.
